Why You Need a Responsible Person in the EU
Under the EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR – Regulation (EU) 2023/988), all non-EU manufacturers must appoint a legally accountable Responsible Person (RP) based in the European Union before placing consumer products on the EU market.
The RP is your official representative for product safety matters — and plays a key legal role in ensuring that your products meet European safety standards and remain eligible for cross-border distribution within the EU.
Failure to appoint a compliant RP may result in
- Customs blocks or border rejections
- Product delisting from online marketplaces and retail channels
- Fines, penalties, or formal enforcement action by EU authorities
- Loss of market access and reputational damage
Our Role as Your EU-Based Responsible Person
At VIAX Language and Legal, we act as your official EU Responsible Person, taking on legal accountability and supporting you in meeting all obligations under the GPSR. We are a fully EU-based law firm with extensive experience advising Chinese manufacturers on cross-border product compliance.
As your EU RP, our role is to minimize your legal risk, ensure audit-ready documentation, and help you maintain access to the EU market. We do not conduct testing or technical evaluations ourselves, but we will ensure the legal framework is in place — and connect you with the best professionals in Europe for the rest.
We help businesses establish criteria for identifying high-risk clients based on factors like the client’s background, business activities, and geographic location.
For high-risk clients, we assist in implementing enhanced verification procedures, such as obtaining additional documentation, verifying the source of funds, and conducting ongoing monitoring of client activity.
If suspicious activity is identified during due diligence, businesses must report this to the appropriate authorities. We ensure that your company is equipped to meet its reporting obligations and minimize exposure to financial crime risks.
